Jesus Eduardo Vaz, PhD; 66, of Caracas, Venezuela, died of a heart attack on Saturday, March 20, 2004 while playing tennis with his friends. A nuclear geochemist, he received his Ph.D. from George Washington University in Washington DC. He was the head of the Nuclear Technology Center at the Venezuelan Institute of Scientific Investigation. He was renown for his research on the Ucera Meteorite and radiometric dating techniques of minerals using thermoluminescence. He is survived by his wife, Rebecca; daughter, Carmen Vaz-Altenberg; two sons, Dorian and Eduardo; a sister, Mariela Wayne; two brothers, Madison and Rafael; and three grandchildren.
